Welcome to the OISD website. It is an honor to serve as your superintendent, and I pledge to ensure every child has the tools necessary for high levels of success. We have worked hard to create a “team” environment, and we look forward to working alongside each child, parent, and stakeholder.

The school board adopted vision statement is, “Pursue Excellence.” We will accomplish this vision together by having a positive attitude every day, being on time, improving personally and professionally, being resilient, and believing what we do matters. At Oakwood ISD, we understand that we are here for the children. They are not here for us.

Oakwood Independent School District recently earned the Postsecondary Readiness Distinction. We were one of only 57 schools in the state of Texas to earn this academic honor! A total of 61 ISD’s and charter schools received the distinction. With over 1,600 schools in Texas, Oakwood ISD is a lighthouse of academic prosperity.

Oakwood High School received five out of seven academic distinctions on the newly released Texas Education Agency Accountability ratings. No other school in Leon County had more than two distinctions. Oakwood Elementary earned three out of five academic distinctions and is a National Blue Ribbon School. Thank you for being an active part of your child’s learning experience and for helping us “Pursue Excellence!”

In July, Oakwood residents voted and approved a Tax Ratification Election (TRE) that enables us to provide new programs and teachers that we were unable to offer last year. This includes Pre-AP Algebra and multiple business and agriculture (CTE) courses. We also added an elementary principal, and offer baseball this year. Each student truly receives a big education in a small town.

If there is anything I can do to assist you, please don’t hesitate to call or come by my office. Together, we will “Pursue Excellence!”

Proud to be a Panther,

Russell Holden
