The Oakwood Independent School District Board of Trustees unanimously approved a $2.4 million bond referendum to be included in the May 2, 2020 ballot. The proposed bond would address needs that the School Board and stakeholders have identified as areas for improvement for the district and its students. Through much discussion and deliberation, consensus was reached over the scope of the projects that would be included in the bond proposal. The recommended projects in this bond proposal would address some of the districts facility needs including:
- A new 8 lane track and field on land purchased near the school.
- A new football field and irrigation inside of the track
- Lighting for the site
- New aluminum bleachers with handicapped access.
- Fieldhouse which would include locker rooms, restrooms, concession stand, and storage.
- Parking areas and the related infrastructure
- Ag shop renovations (to be paid for by reimbursement for the site)
The structure of the Bond Proposal would yield no additional taxes imposed by the district over the life of this bond, keeping the districts I&S tax rate at .1844. The Oakwood ISD Board of Trustees has worked diligently to address needs without adding an additional tax burden to its community. Oakwood ISD continues to have one of the lowest tax rates in the region.
