Oakwood ISD will remain closed for the remainder of this week (including Friday, Feb. 19). UPDATE - Tuesday, Feb. 16 Oakwood Family, As we continue to struggle with the effects of the winter storm, it is fairly obvious that remote instruction is not possible for many of our families while dealing with the loss of heat, water, power outages, rolling blackouts, and loss of connectivity. Right now our primary concern is for the welfare and safety of our students and the Oakwood community. If anyone needs anything, please email me (rholden@oakwoodisd.net) and let me know. I will do whatever I can to help out. With that said, school is canceled today, Wednesday and Thursday. We are also cancelling remote learning for the next three days (Today, Wednesday, and Thursday). We will evaluate school for Friday and make a decision by Thursday at 3pm. Once again, please take care of yourself and your family. We will worry about school once everyone is safe and warm. Respectfully, R. Holden

Dear Parent or Guardian, The deadline to apply for P-EBT food benefits has been extended to July 31. Please review the criteria to see if your family is eligible and needs to apply for benefits. Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) is a one-time benefit for eligible families to buy food. Immigration status does not matter when applying for P-EBT. The public charge rule does not apply to P-EBT benefits. P-EBT is for children 5-18 years old who received SNAP food benefits for the month of March 2020. P-EBT is also for children up to 21 years old who are certified for free or reduced-price meals through the National School Lunch Program at school during the 2019-20 school year. Children that attend a school that offers free meals to all students (Community Eligibility Provision or Provision 2) are also eligible. • Fill out an application here: https://yourtexasbenefits.com/Learn/PEBT (the URL is case-sensitive)

The Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer, or P-EBT, application is open. You should have received a school email or letter with more information on how to apply for these food benefits. P-EBT is for children who received SNAP food benefits for March 2020 and for children who are certified for free or reduced-price school meals during the 2019-20 Texas school year. You could receive up to $285 per child on a P-EBT card to purchase food at stores. If you have not received P-EBT information from your school, please contact 833-613-6220. Visit hhs.texas.gov/PEBT for more information.

Dear Parent or Guardian, Your household may be eligible to receive Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) benefits to buy food. P-EBT is for children 5-18 years old who received SNAP food benefits for the month of March 2020 and children up to 21 years old who are certified for free or reduced-price meals at school in Texas during the 2019-20 school year. Children that attend a school that offers free meals to all students (Community Eligibility Provision or Provision 2) are also eligible. The online application for P-EBT is now open. Please review the criteria to see if you need to apply to receive these benefits. The application link is provided below. Do I need to apply for P-EBT? Families that DID NOT get SNAP benefits for the month of March 2020 • Yes, you will need to apply. • Fill out an application here: yourtexasbenefits.com/Learn/PEBT • The application is open until June 30, 2020. • If you do not currently get SNAP benefits and your child is approved for P-EBT, you will be mailed a P-EBT card loaded with benefits. Families that DID get SNAP benefits for the month of March 2020 • You do not need to apply for children ages 5-18. Benefits were loaded onto your existing SNAP card by May 22. • If you have children under 5 and/or between the ages of 19 and 21, you will need to fill out an application for those children. Fill out an application here: yourtexasbenefits.com/Learn/PEBT • If you get SNAP benefits and your child is approved for P-EBT, we will put funds on your current Lone Star Card. You will have one year from the date the benefits were issued to use your P-EBT benefits. P-EBT benefits are non-transferrable. If you need help filling out the P-EBT application, please contact is 833-613-6220. For more information, please visit hhs.texas.gov/PEBT or call is 833-613-6220. Sincerely, Oakwood ISD

SUMMER MEALS-TO-YOU: TEXAS The program is available to households with at least one child eligible for Free and Reduced-Price Lunch during the school year. Students can be eligible as individuals. Each household can receive one box per week for each child, ages 0 to 18 (though the boxes include food items typically appropriate for children two and older), living in the household, provided he or she has neither graduated nor dropped out of school before the age of 18. (If you have multiple children living with you this summer, make sure to list an eligible student first on the enrollment form. We will serve as many students as possible this summer, but due to the limited number of meals we can provide, we may not be able to serve everyone who signs up. We will use a lottery to place each household into one of two groups. One group will receive food boxes throughout the summer, while the other group will be placed on a wait list to receive boxes should space become available. All families will have the same chance of receiving the food boxes, and if wait-listed, the same chance of coming off of the wait list. Signup can be done here-- https://mealstoyou.org/meals-to-you-texas/

These items will be packaged in the Friday meal pickup / delivery starting next week. If you know of any student or family that could benefit from the meal service, please let them know that it is available. You do not have to be an Oakwood student, any students can benefit from this. Meals can be picked up in the cafeteria from 7:30am until 12:00pm Monday through Friday and we will continue with the deliveries as well. Parents: Oakwood ISD would like to thank you for all your hardwork and dedication to making sure your child is receiving the best education available during our shutdown. Teachers have reported amazing stories of students working hard to complete all assignments. For this, we are grateful. For the next assignment roll out, we will be sending assignments in paper form and online. The assignment in paper form will be mailed to the address we have on file on Monday, April 6, 2020. If you have not updated your address with the school and have recently moved, please call and update that information as quickly as possible. Teachers have been working diligently to provide online lessons for students who have internet access. We will go live with our online learning on Monday, April 6, 2020. We will push out the link to our online learning before Monday. Online learning will be available for all students, even those who have requested paper packets. This is a new delivery system for Oakwood ISD and we are excited to offer it to our students. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us immediately. After students have completed their work, there are two ways you can return the work to the teachers. First, you can take a picture of your work with your smartphone and email it to your teacher. Second, you can bring a paper copy of your work and put it in the return box stationed outside of the cafeteria on our campus. Please make sure to place your work in the appropriate slot. There will be a slot for the Elementary and one for the High School. Make sure that your Name, Grade, and Teacher's name is on every paper you submit. These are trying times but we want to make sure that our students are receiving the best we have to offer. It is our hope and sincere prayer that every student receives all the support he or she needs to minimize the stress and anxiety our children may be feeling but in an effort to make things as normal as possible, please ensure that your students are completing the packets. If you need support, please contact your teacher by email. Students that need help with technology may request a chromebook from the school. Please email jostlund@oakwoodisd.net to let us know that you will be needing this resource and we will make sure that we have one available for you. If you need wifi access, please feel free to connect to the wifi from the parking lot at school while staying in our vehicle. All social distancing guidelines must be followed. We are currently working on the availability of a few mobile wifi hotspots, that information will be made available once we know more about the possibility of rolling out those devices.

Oakwood ISD will shut down all baseball, tennis, golf, and track practices until at least March 23. At that time we will resume back to school and will proceed with the normal practice schedule like any other school week. We will continue to abide by the UIL's decision, and will get communication about making up the games we will miss during this time out to you as soon as we get further word and a chance to meet about scheduling. Thank you for your understanding and please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions or concerns in regards to Oakwood athletics.
