Dear Parent or Guardian,
The deadline to apply for P-EBT food benefits has been extended to July 31. Please review the criteria to see if your family is eligible and needs to apply for benefits. Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) is a one-time benefit for eligible families to buy food. Immigration status does not matter when applying for P-EBT. The public charge rule does not apply to P-EBT benefits.
P-EBT is for children 5-18 years old who received SNAP food benefits for the month of March 2020. P-EBT is also for children up to 21 years old who are certified for free or reduced-price meals through the National School Lunch Program at school during the 2019-20 school year. Children that attend a school that offers free meals to all students (Community Eligibility Provision or Provision 2) are also eligible.

Students in Grades 9-12 please follow the link below and answer 3 short questions for me as I am working on completing your schedules for the 20-21 school year. Thank you. -- Miss Olive

SUMMER MEALS-TO-YOU: TEXAS
The program is available to households with at least one child eligible for Free and Reduced-Price Lunch during the school year. Students can be eligible as individuals. Each household can receive one box per week for each child, ages 0 to 18 (though the boxes include food items typically appropriate for children two and older), living in the household, provided he or she has neither graduated nor dropped out of school before the age of 18. (If you have multiple children living with you this summer, make sure to list an eligible student first on the enrollment form.
We will serve as many students as possible this summer, but due to the limited number of meals we can provide, we may not be able to serve everyone who signs up. We will use a lottery to place each household into one of two groups. One group will receive food boxes throughout the summer, while the other group will be placed on a wait list to receive boxes should space become available. All families will have the same chance of receiving the food boxes, and if wait-listed, the same chance of coming off of the wait list.
Signup can be done here-- https://mealstoyou.org/meals-to-you-texas/

Today (Friday, April 17), Governor Greg Abbott issued an executive order closing schools for the remainder of the school year. Schools will continue to educate through online distance learning and printed packets to finish out the year. Plans for graduation are being discussed and will be posted as soon as possible. Please pray for the seniors, this is not how they wanted to finish their year.

Oakwood Students and Parents: In an effort to help out as many families as possible during this very difficult time, Oakwood ISD will be expanding it's meal service to include weekend breakfast and lunch as well. These items will be packaged in the Friday meal pickup / delivery starting next week. If you know of any student or family that could benefit from the meal service, please let them know that it is available. You do not have to be an Oakwood student, any students can benefit from this. Meals can be picked up in the cafeteria from 7:30am until 12:00pm Monday through Friday and we will continue with the deliveries as well. We are a family in Oakwood, and together we can get through these trying times.

Any sophomores and juniors interested in taking dual credit courses for the 20-21 school year, please email me ASAP. We are starting to complete the enrollment process. Current junior DC students will need to contact me as well. Email me at lolive@oakwoodisd.net -- Miss Lori

Friday April 3, 2020
Breakfast- Cereal, Juice, Milk
Lunch- Hamburger, Vegetables, Chips, Fruit, Milk
Don’t forget we are delivering breakfast and lunch today. Ms. Melissa and Ms. Lilly have been busy making meals for the kids. If you know of anyone that does not see our post and needs a meal, please contact us so we can get meals to them. Meals are available for children 18 and younger and they do NOT have to attend Oakwood ISD. We want to make sure everyone gets meals that wants one and we love seeing your smiling faces when we make deliveries.

Parents: Oakwood ISD would like to thank you for all your hardwork and dedication to making sure your child is receiving the best education available during our shutdown. Teachers have reported amazing stories of students working hard to complete all assignments. For this, we are grateful.
For the next assignment roll out, we will be sending assignments in paper form and online. The assignment in paper form will be mailed to the address we have on file on Monday, April 6, 2020. If you have not updated your address with the school and have recently moved, please call and update that information as quickly as possible. Teachers have been working diligently to provide online lessons for students who have internet access. We will go live with our online learning on Monday, April 6, 2020. We will push out the link to our online learning before Monday. Online learning will be available for all students, even those who have requested paper packets. This is a new delivery system for Oakwood ISD and we are excited to offer it to our students. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us immediately.
After students have completed their work, there are two ways you can return the work to the teachers. First, you can take a picture of your work with your smartphone and email it to your teacher. Second, you can bring a paper copy of your work and put it in the return box stationed outside of the cafeteria on our campus. Please make sure to place your work in the appropriate slot. There will be a slot for the Elementary and one for the High School. Make sure that your Name, Grade, and Teacher's name is on every paper you submit.
These are trying times but we want to make sure that our students are receiving the best we have to offer. It is our hope and sincere prayer that every student receives all the support he or she needs to minimize the stress and anxiety our children may be feeling but in an effort to make things as normal as possible, please ensure that your students are completing the packets. If you need support, please contact your teacher by email.
Students that need help with technology may request a chromebook from the school. Please email jostlund@oakwoodisd.net to let us know that you will be needing this resource and we will make sure that we have one available for you. If you need wifi access, please feel free to connect to the wifi from the parking lot at school while staying in our vehicle. All social distancing guidelines must be followed. We are currently working on the availability of a few mobile wifi hotspots, that information will be made available once we know more about the possibility of rolling out those devices.

Practice Social Distancing
To avoid the spread of COVID-19 in our community, practice social distancing:
• Avoid going out in public
• When in public, keep six feet of distance between you and others
• Follow guidance provided by local and state officials.

The Oakwood ISD community must work together to fight COVID-19. Head to http://tea.texas.gov/staywell for vitally important public health guidance to stop the spread. If we stand apart as a community now, we will be together again soon.
