Calendar

The Oakwood ISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved a new, modified 4-day school calendar for the 2020-2021 school year.  After reviewing the results from a community survey that showed over a 95% approval rate of the idea, the new calendar was adopted.  School officials stressed that the school will remain open all five days of the week for those parents who are working, for those that would like their children to attend school every day, or for those students that need additional help or acceleration.  Buses will also run all five days, although the times might change slightly, and school meals will be served Monday through Friday as well.  The modified calendar is built upon giving students a “flex” Monday, an optional day that would allow for additional one on one time with teachers for any students that may need it.  It will also serve as an incentive for students to pass their classes and create opportunities to have additional time to work on Ag projects, dual credit college classes, or have time to take care of personal business.  Administration is also looking at the use of the flex days next year to help students who have lost ground academically due to the Covid-19 pandemic and feel that this calendar creates the flexibility to address those needs.  Teachers were also fully supportive of the new calendar which played a big role in getting it approved.  Oakwood ISD is an open enrollment district and will be accepting transfer students on a first come basis as long as spots remain available.
